The cold, empty space stares back at me:
What if it doesn't resonate?
What if I'm not pleased with it?
Tick-tock
More seconds elapse and I don't even have a draft to call first.
It's an uncomfortable feeling.
Staring across the chasm between the brilliant insight in your mind and the not-yet-articulated onto the screen. Instead of paralysis at this precipice, here are three ways to write the problem away…
1) Embrace declutter
Reframe the blank page "difficulty":
distractions are momentarily hidden
Nothing to get in your way
Later on: a happy hour to incorporate scattered scraps of ideas 🥳
2) Modify the medium
Use pen and paper. The act of physically writing activates your brain differently than your fingers hammering at the keyboard.
Stand up and walk.
Change your environment.
As you engage your senses,
new thoughts will come onto the stage of your mind:
like two characters that aren't supposed to share the scene,
yet their presence sparks a surprising concept 🎭
3) Suspend rabbit holes
Start writing: Roll the ball down the hill. Spill the ink.
You will be tempted to pull up other resources. Jot it down for later.
When the time comes, your second brain of curated knowledge and intriguing tidbits will be ready.
Until then, be present with that piece of paper
Fill it with your creativity to make a whole new world of thought
Don't you dare close the file without your first version
Diamonds are unearthed from the rough drafts 💎
