I look up and see the ominous clouds peering over the mountain. The waterway is unusually low and the ducks waddle around the dry ground.
If the rain follows through on the sky's promise,
the neighborhood creatures will swim again.
After a passing shower, every drop will eventually make its way down the slopes. Over time, nature has carved out myriad paths for gravity to do its work. Some water will stop short of ground level.
While other water will join with its fellow molecules at the bottom. If too much water is pooling in one place,
the land is modified, guiding water to a better destination.
There's no stopping the flow, but you can structure the paths meaningfully.
This helps me understand the creative process.
The rain represents inputs:
whatever you consume,
both actively and passively.
At the bottom, a reservoir of creative inspiration meets you,
providing opportunities for you to create sparks for the next person.
What system are you designing to gather the ideas you encounter?
Do you have procedures that make it effortless to go to the next step?
The only way to find your system is to start and tweak along the way. You'll only go so far when you study others' setups.
What works for them may not work for you.
Identify parts of the process to make effortless, so you can focus your energy on the parts that require more time and traction.
The storm is coming. Are you ready?
